Can I sell power back to LIPA?
Yes. This is one of the main reasons solar electric is such a great investment. During daylight hours when your system generates more power than you consume, your meter will spin backwards as you sell electricity to LIPA.
How do I know if solar will work at my location?
The main factors include: size of roof, shading, and roof condition. You will need a minimum of 400 square feet of un-shaded roof space that faces south, west or east. You will need to make sure your roof is in good condition with at least 20 years left on its life.
Will my system work when it's cloudy?
Yes. Although solar electric panels are most efficient in full sun, output is only reduced by 5%-20% during cloudy conditions.
Do the solar electric panels have to face south?
No. East and west exposures can also work well.
How much roof space do I need?
Solar electric systems can be custom designed to take advantage of your available roof space. Generally, each kilowatt hour of power production requires around 100 square feet of space.
What is the warranty and lifespan of the equipment?
Most solar electric panels carry a 25-year warranty and have a typical useful life of more than 30 years. Inverters typically have a 5-year warranty and a 10-15 year useful life.
